Florida Blue Foundation, an affiliate of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association (BCBS) , selected Miami’s Barry University to receive a $225,000 grant for a statewide nursing program, the organization announced this week in Jacksonville, Florida.
By providing the funding for the brand-new Statewide Nursing Leadership Development initiative, a select group of 32 nursing professionals throughout the state will be able to access advanced education on health policy and leadership within health-care systems to gain a perspective on the practical applications of their field.
The grant period, to extend over the next two years, will allow participants to delve into advocacy issues while gaining valuable leadership skills in order to serve as liaisons between their facilities and public health officials on local and state levels, with the aim to positively impact important health-care decision-making.
Nurses will be chosen from eight regions of Florida — East Central, Northeast, Northwest, North Central, Southeast, Southwest, South and West Central.
Barry University is a private institution of higher learning with a liberal arts focus based in Miami. The school’s College of Nursing and Health Sciences offers undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs.
Florida Blue Foundation is an independent philanthropic affiliate and licensee of BCBS. With over 20 locations statewide and a strong commitment to positive impacting health literacy, the foundation seeks to enable healthy communities through grants and coalitions.
