Waste Management Inc. of Florida recently announced its purchase of residential, commercial, and industrial holdings from Southern Waste Systems (SWS)/Sun Recycling in a pattern of continued growth for the company.
The acquisition includes one dozen SWS/Sun Recycling facilities in Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties. In addition to solid waste collection, the transaction also includes processing/recycling and transfer operations, equipment, vehicles, real estate, and customer contracts.
“Today marks the beginning of us bringing together two very successful, complimentary businesses and we’re excited to welcome the more than 750 talented and dedicated SWS employees to the Waste Management team,” Tim Hawkins, area VP for Waste Management Inc. of Florida, said. “The SWS/Sun Recycling assets align perfectly with our existing operations and service offerings, and will enhance the environmental solutions we provide to our combined customers throughout South Florida.”
With national headquarters in Houston, Waste Management serves as one of the continent’s leading waste management service providers. In addition to collection, transfer, recycling and resource recovery, the company develops and runs landfill gas-to-energy operations across the U.S., with customers ranging from residential and municipal to commercial and industrial.
Waste Management plans to include information regarding the transaction in its fourth quarter earnings report.
