Meridian Behavioral Healthcare Inc., a treatment system based in Lake City with several North Florida locations, recently appointed John Corneilson as its CFO after he served for two years as comptroller and VP for finance/accounting.
With an extensive accounting background, Corneilson, an Ocala resident, previously worked as an industrial accounting controller in various manufacturing settings. Most recently he served as director for a camp and retreat center in Hawthorne. Corneilson earned his master’s in business administration and accounting from Northern Illinois University.
Meridian offers several forms of direct care, both on an outpatient and residential basis, addressing issues ranging from substance abuse to mental illness using prevention, coordinated treatment and support services.
“The Meridian team is looking forward to the skills and value Corneilson’s substantial background and experience will bring to advancing the organization’s mission of putting wellness within everyone’s reach,” the company said.
Founded in 1972, Meridian is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) for assessment and referral, case management, housing, crisis intervention, and various recovery modalities.
“[People] need to understand that mental illness and substance use disorders are an illness … that happens to manifest in disruptions of brain functions that include emotion, behavior, thought, and perception,” Maggie Labarta, Meridian Behavioral Healthcare’s president and CEO, said.
“The good news is, that once people get in to treatment, there is great and visible success,” Labarta added. “We have a very high specialization and the broadest scope of programs and the staff and the skills to really stand out in nonprofit health care for people with mental illnesses and substance use disorders.”
