Lakeland-based construction firm NuJak Development Inc., a Florida fixture for decades, was recently rated No. 3 on the prestigious Tampa Bay Business Journal ‘s 2016 Fast 50 List as one of the region’s fastest growing companies.
Best known for its selection to participate in the construction of Florida Polytechnic University’s Innovation, Science, and Technology (IST) $107 million building in 2014, NuJak also completed a project in partnership with Southeastern University, a fast-growing private Christian university, on a $60 million capital expansion program.
“I believe it’s a harbinger of things to come,” Frank Kendrick, President/CEO of NuJak, said. “The last time we graced the stage of Fast 50 was in 2007, and right after that the economy tanked, but right now, looking over the horizon, the economy appears to be in full swing and it just signals to me that it’s a full recovery and I really believe the best is yet to come.”
NuJak was tapped as tops at the Journal’s Fast 50 Awards Luncheon recently at Tampa’s TPepin Hospitality Center, joining bay-wide businesses at the annual networking and awards event. Criteria for inclusion centered on revenue growth from 2013 to 2015 for locally headquartered, privately owned companies demonstrating at least three successive years of growth.
Information technology emerged as the most highly represented among ranked fields — at 27 percent — in contrast to construction, which comprised 16 percent of this year’s winners. In addition to being named No. 3 overall, NuJak was ranked No. 1 in the construction sector, registering close to 400 percent revenue growth over the two-year period.
