The Boston Red Sox awarded $5,000 scholarships to 13 high school seniors in Lee County this spring.
This marks the second consecutive year the baseball team has presented students with scholarships through the Red Sox Foundation. Students from each of the 13 public high schools in Lee County are given the scholarship based on academics, community service and overall need, according to a press release.
Funds for this year's scholarships were raised during the 2016 Swings For The Sox golf tournament.
Recipients of the 2017 Red Sox Scholarship were Jade Abrams from Riverdale High School, Rosedarline Berglette from Dunbar High School, Charissa Cenac from Estero High School, Jaritza Crespo from East Lee High School, Gina DeSanctis from Fort Myers High School, Anna Dostie from Cape Coral High School, Willie Hall from Cypress Lake High School, Mackenzie Hare from Island Coast High School, Jamie Lee from Ida Baker High School, Kayla McNeely from Mariner High School, Paige Renyhard from North Fort Myers High School, Aaliyah Richlen from Lehigh High School and Alex Scigliano from South Fort Myers High School.
