The Southwest Florida Community Foundation has added Frederick Moon to its board of trustees.
Moon is a native of New York City and a graduate of Amherst College and Harvard Business School, according to a press release. After finishing business school, Moon served as an assistant treasurer with the Morgan Guaranty Trust Co. in New York City.
Moon has served on many nonprofit boards during his career in southern and northern California and Maine. From 1975 to 1990, he was vice president and treasurer of Pomona College, the founding institution of The Claremont Colleges. He is active in causes relating to environmental sustainability, human and civil rights and the sustainability of local communities.
Moon served as director of The Surdna Foundation in New York City for 20 years, according to the Greater Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce. He helped the company evolve from a low-key family foundation to one that was professionally managed. Moon also developed forestry practices and positioned the foundation to be a model for other businesses.
