Zayo expanding key Miami data center

zColo facility will double company's capacity by next year.

Doubling its capacity by next year, Zayo Group Holdings, Inc. today announced that it will expand its zColo Miami, Florida data center, which provides colocation and interconnection services for top customers including top content and gaming providers.

Nearing capacity after only 18 months in service, the center was developed as an interconnection hub by Zayo, partnering with Netflix and Host.net to form the Florida Internet Exchange (FL-IX), letting content providers, ISPs and enterprises exchange traffic transparently. The Miami base has proven central to the firm’s growth, having achieved more than 35 percent in unlevered return on its initial facility investment.

“Customers have embraced this new data center with the extensive interconnection capability we have built,” Stephanie Copeland, president of Zayo’s zColo, said. “This is evidenced by the support of key anchor customers out of the gate, plus strong follow-on demand in the short period since. Miami is a vibrant and growing market, and an important Latin American gateway for many companies. We have provided a differentiated option in the market.”

Zayo provides bandwidth infrastructure services, including fiber and bandwidth connectivity, colocation, and cloud services to the world’s leading businesses.

In Miami’s downtown area, the zColo facility provides access to Zayo’s extensive U.S. and European fiber network with a full suite of bandwidth solutions, including dark fiber, wavelengths, Ethernet and IP.

The data center also offers interconnections to 15 major carriers, as well as a virtual extended presence in the NAP of the Americas data center.

Zayo’s zColo U.S. footprint totals 36 facilities.
