In anticipation of the 2016 Olympics, wholesale data network service provider GlobeNet will play a key role in worldwide coverage as it expands its network to a new Point of Presence (PoP) in São Paulo, Brazil.
Publicizing its imminent expansion in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, GlobeNet, Serving Latin and North America, announced that the PoP addition will enhance international connectivity options, delivering Ethernet and IP services--including GNIIX, GlobeNet's newest service—to the Equinix Datacenter (SP2) in São Paulo.
The PoP will let GlobeNet extend its layer 2- and layer 3-based services into a significantly large Brazilian metropolitan market, while GlobeNet's GNIIX and IP Transit offerings from São Paulo will upgrade customers' secure international connectivity options both to the Americas and to Europe.
The firm expects to play a major role in connectivity for the upcoming 2016 Olympic Games, drawing hundreds of millions of international viewers. Global broadcast networks, needing ingress to and egress from Brazil to meet viewer demand, will depend heavily on reliable, high-capacity networks.
"GlobeNet has been deeply rooted in Brazil since inception and, as such, our dedication to providing the carriers and service providers with reliable and secure low latency transport services to Brazil and across the Americas is of the utmost importance," Erick Contag, GlobeNet's president and COO, said. "GlobeNet's new presence enables us to enhance the connectivity options and reach of our customers via our new GNIIX service, as well as our full suite of transport solutions.”
GlobeNet provides connects North and South America over a state-of-the-art submarine cable system serving Brazil, Bermuda, Colombia, the U.S. and Venezuela — over 23,500 kilometers in length — with the lowest latency available.
The network links cable landing stations in both Boca Raton, Florida, and Tuckerton, New Jersey, with stations in Fortaleza and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; St. David's, Bermuda; Barranquilla, Colombia; and Maiquetía, Venezuela.
