Jacksonville, Florida-based CSX, a leading rail transportation company, recently announced the selection of a South Carolina industrial park as a CSX Select Site.
The selection was based on the site's readiness for development along the extensive CSX network.
West Branch Commerce Park in Berkeley County, South Carolina, was chosen for its compliance regarding standard land use and due diligence issues. Along with similar such properties, it was deemed prepared to meet development needs, appreciably reducing time required to construct facilities and merchandise products.
Eligibility for Select Site designation is largely based on rigorous criteria entailing infrastructure and utility accessibility, environmental quality standards, zoning and entitlement compliance, workforce availability, rail serviceability, and proximity to major roadways.
"The State of South Carolina continues to be a magnet for new industry," Clark Robertson, CSX assistant vice president for regional development, said. "Located 30 miles from the Port of Charleston, this site is ideal for manufacturers with overseas customers or international supply chains and is well-positioned to capitalize on the area's superior logistics capabilities."
CSX Select Sites are the first, premium certified rail-served sites for industrial development and expansion. The Select Site program was established in 2012 to improved service to new and existing customers. CSX partners with national site-selection firm The Austin Company to screen sites and guide communities through the application and certification processes.
