Empower Adventures lands Tampa Bay zip line, aerial park complex

Zigzagging over waterways with wondrous views, a zip line and aerial adventure park were recently approved by Oldsmar, Florida’s City Council for Clearwater-based Empower Adventures Tampa Bay's (EATB) latest project, which is slated to open in May.

Project plans include a 55-foot-tall start tower, five zip lines and a 100-foot suspension bridge, plus numerous log and catwalk bridges, steps, tires, and poles. The course will be designed to be navigable in approximately 90 minutes with guide-led groups.

"A zip line really allows you to see beautiful areas of the woods without really impacting them,” Oldsmar Mayor Doug Bevis said. “I think it's a great asset, and what better way to showcase it (the Mobbly Bayou Wilderness Preserve) than by flying over it? And it's fun."

Construction is anticipated to start this month with a projected grand opening in mid-May. Tampa Bay businessman Dev Pathik, EATB’s owner/partner, described zip line canopy tours as the world’s most rapidly growing tourist attraction.

"We are thrilled that the city of Oldsmar shares our vision and allowed us the opportunity to develop an environmentally-friendly park,” Pathik said. “The public will soon learn how stepping out of the classroom, office or the comfort of their homes will help them deal with fear, anxiety and stress, while team coaching will create leadership and a place for strength."

EATB’s founder, Joe DeRing, served as a driving force behind the business concept. DeRing and Pathik teamed up with now-CFO Jason Clement, an architect and sports/recreation facility expert whose work has gained renown in the Tampa Bay area, to streamline plans for the attraction.

Pathik called DeRing “the leader behind this unique experience we have created for corporations, youth organizations, families and literally any individual that wants to change the way they take on the hurdles in life."

DeRing added that the complex will provide programs for groups ranging from corporate team building and youth leadership initiatives to informal family fun

Empower Adventures in Oldsmar will be the company’s third location, with existing sites in Middletown, Connecticut and Middleburg, Virginia.
