From an enterprising 19-year-old’s concept to its present-day franchise status, Froots of Davie, Florida recently announced that it is coming full circle as its owners roll up their sleeves to refine and smooth day-to-day operations.
The quick-service food and beverage provider focuses on healthy fare. Founder David Lopez and his former COO, Scott Mortier, have decided to dive back in to daily management to bring all aspects of the business back up to speed and drive growth.
Lopez created Froots in 2001, when he was just 19, opening additional locations and ultimately franchising purely in response to customer demand. Currently, Froots operates over 30 locations. Because the pair anticipates rapid development, they felt it was time for an operational overhaul.
“Over nearly a decade, we’ve watched Froots be poorly managed and dwindle from 90-plus locations to below 40 units,” Mortier, now the company’s EVP of business development, said. “We want to revive Froots and bring a whole new life to the brand.”
To support that aim, Lopez and Mortier recently established a partnership with a Miami-area Mediterranean-themed franchise called Gyroville. Additionally, they previously saw a unique opportunity to cater to an increasing health-conscious population by investing in smoothies. Froots also serves energy shakes, fresh-squeezed juices, sandwiches, wraps, paninis, salads, and soups.
“The timing is right,” Lopez said. “We’re going to be very careful during our franchise sales process to ensure we’re partnering with people who have the right expectations … to build a world-class brand, growing one successful franchisee at a time — ultimately, becoming the leading healthy food destination in the quick-service space.”
