Floral flair and business savvy recently earned Florida’s Details Flowers, an event specialist and photography company, a prize package worth $25,000 from The Rollins College Crummer Graduate School of Business’ 2016 annual venture plan competition.
Billed as Central Florida’s “Shark Tank,” the event sponsored by the Orlando institution pits start-ups against one another in a “battle for funding and mentorship,” an entrepreneurial contest judged by business leaders and venture capitalists.
As well as $25,000 in cash, Details may receive a matching amount in equity. The secret ingredient in the Daytona Beach-area firm’s arsenal is a patent-pending software application that shaves hours off of tasks that traditionally took much longer, from order processing to proposal polishing.
"Winning the Rollins Crummer Venture Plan Competition is so exciting and means everything to Details Flowers,” Isabella Johnston, Details Flowers CMO and a Rollins College graduate, said. “It is … going to change lives for people in our industry, bringing them into the 21st century. Participating in Crummer's competition was a lesson on how important it is for an entrepreneur to be very diligent, open to feedback and surround yourself with a strong team."
Hosted by Crummer's Center for Advanced Entrepreneurship, the annual challenge allows Rollins community members to test business plans directly in the marketplace while enjoying the advantage of connecting with an existing professional network.
"The Venture Plan Competition showcases the importance of education rooted in real-world experience, a cornerstone of the Crummer philosophy," Cari Coats, Crummer Center’s executive director, said. "The unique partnership that we have with our winners provides them with limitless potential to make a difference in Central Florida's entrepreneurial scene and in their industry as a whole. We look forward to collaborating with Details Flowers to help build their business even further."
