NextEra Energy Inc. of Juno Beach recently revealed that its nuclear energy fleet, including its New Hampshire-based Seabrook Station, has won the Nuclear Energy Institute’s top 2016 award for implementing heightened plant performance.
The honor, officially entitled the “B. Ralph Sylvia ‘Best of the Best’ Top Innovative Practice Award,” acknowledged NextEra’s Continuous Improvement Program for systematizing efficient procedures, unifying major functions and improving performance across the board for all of the company’s nuclear plants.
The recognition is a first-time event for the Florida firm.
"We are extremely honored by this award," Mano Nazar, NextEra Energy's president and chief nuclear officer, said. "By setting targets and analyzing best practices, our team is able to identify areas for … operational improvements across the entire nuclear fleet. This award is a reflection of our entire team of professionals who are committed to continuous improvement, raising standards and reinforcing public confidence in the safety of nuclear energy."
Presenting the award, the Nuclear Energy Institute’s SVP and chief nuclear officer, Tony Pietrangelo, commended NextEra’s operations and innovative practices as “the foundation of an industry-wide initiative.”
"We are honored to recognize the dedicated professionals whose innovative thinking and hard work produced this remarkable accomplishment that will bring benefits to the entire industry," Pietrangelo said.
