Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare (TMH) recently became North Florida’s sole designated Comprehensive Stroke Center, selected by the Agency for Health Care Administration and heartily endorsed by both the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association.
The two major American health organizations designated TMH with the ranking based on its compliance with qualifying regulations. To be named a Comprehensive Stroke Center, a facility must deliver state-of-the-art stroke intervention and top treatment from expert physicians.
"When someone is having a stroke, time is brain," Dr. Siddharth Sehgal, medical director of the Tallahassee Memorial Neuroscience Center, said. "For stroke patients and their families getting timely, efficient and accurate care can mean the difference between life and death. As the only Comprehensive Stroke Center in North Florida, we offer the highest level of care for stroke patients, right here in Tallahassee."
TMH is equipped with pioneering methods, including a medication to destroy blood clots called tPA and non-invasive endovascular neurosurgery. Strokes imperil blood flow to the brain, depriving it of oxygen and requiring immediate medical care.
"Excellent clinical stroke care is a vital medical service," Mark O'Bryant, Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare’s president and CEO, said. "At TMH our mission is to transform care, advance health and improve lives. This Comprehensive Stroke Center designation brings our mission to life. We are proud to offer the most advanced treatment options and provide patients and families immediate care in their own community."
