Backing biking and bake sales, Sunrise-based Wellnext garnered recognition for three decades of wellness awareness and promotion among its personnel recently with a South Florida Business Journal ’s 2016 Healthiest Employer Award.
Although those bake sales came with a twist —as they were contingent upon employees participating in exercise prior to purchase — they raised $20,000 for ‘Relay for Life.’ Bicycling proved a win-win, as the company sponsored bike exchanges among employees as well as a family-style bike ride event.
Additionally, staffers had the option to partake in a weight loss challenge with access to personal training. Such incentives not only benefit individuals’ health, but also save the company in health care spending.
"We are honored to receive this award, as Wellnext's wellness program goes hand in hand with our mission to be a trusted partner for healthier living," Sharon Minski, Wellnext’s VP of organizational development, said.
Wellnext, a family of nutritional supplement products, owns Nature’s Products Inc. among other brands. This year marks the company’s third nomination and second win in the medium-sized business category.
"In addition to our corporate fitness and nutrition programs, along with individual support from an on-site trainer, we try to incorporate wellness into our corporate events — whether that's including fun sporting games, or offering healthy food options during company meetings," Minski said.
