Smart electricity authority ISGAN — the International Smart Grid Action Network — recently honored Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) of Juno Beach with an Award of Excellence for its specialized Automated Fault Mapping Prediction System initiative.
"This award is a reflection of our team of innovators' diligent work to implement smart grid solutions that continue to improve the service we provide our customers," FPL’s Manny Miranda, SVP of power delivery, said. "We have made remarkable strides in our ability to monitor and manage the energy grid today compared to just a few years ago, helping us deliver greater reliability in good weather and bad."
FPL’s project succeeded in integrating grid data in order to point crews on the ground in the right direction to resolve power line issues more quickly, consequently lowering the number of customers impeded by outages.
"We're honored that our work to build a stronger and smarter energy grid for Florida is being recognized," Eric Silagy, FPL’s president and CEO, said. "Innovative projects like this help us deliver reliable service to our customers year-round. Leveraging advanced solutions such as the Automated Fault Mapping Prediction System, gives us unprecedented visibility across the grid so we can more quickly detect and prevent many issues before they become problems for our customers."
ISGAN Awards are presented annually for smart grid projects. FPL prides itself on its innovative solutions and overall reliability, which has improved over 25 percent over the last five years.
