Lakeland charter school offers Summer Palooza Aug. 6

New Beginnings High School (NBHS), a Polk County charter school, will celebrate the opening of its second campus with a “Summer Palooza” event from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Aug. 6 at Simpson Park, Lakeland.

Currently serving 582 Polk County students between ages 15 and 24 who thrive in alternative learning environments, NBHS will open a new facility at 320 W Main St. in August with the expectation of serving another 600 enrollees. NBHS established its original site in Winter Haven as a nonprofit educational institution for at-risk students, customizing its curriculum to ensure successful graduation and acquisition of marketable skills.

The school is seeking donations from the community in the hope that Summer Palooza will help families and children to acquire essentials needed during the school year such as school supplies, sundries, and apparel. Desirable contributions include socks, shoes, belts; personal hygiene products such as shampoo, soap, toothbrushes, and combs, and food products.

Summer Palooza will feature guest speakers, a warm meal, and entertainment throughout the day. In addition to supplies and monetary support, NBHS seeks catering services for this event. Additionally, sponsorships are available. For questions or sponsorship information, please contact Shawna Butler at or call 863-581-5000.
