Florida’s fifth yearly Lineworker Appreciation Day was held Aug. 26, Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) announced from Juno Beach,
The event honors its professional service technicians who literally keep the lights on for millions.
"Delivering safe, affordable and reliable service to more than 10 million Floridians takes a special kind of energy — the energy driving a team of highly skilled professionals committed to working safely to keep the lights on for customers in good weather and bad," Eric Silagy, president and CEO for FPL, said.
FPL has been widely recognized as Florida’s most reliable utility provider, as well as one of the top in the nation. Performing at almost 50 percent better than the national average, FPL has earned many awards by industry organizations.
“These acknowledgements are a direct reflection of our team's commitment to excellence and FPL's continued investments to build a stronger, smarter more storm-resilient energy grid to deliver outstanding value for our customers,” Silagy said.
The company has invested over $2 billion since 2006 to strengthen its network and support its performance in extreme weather, with plans to invest another $1.75 billion in the next three years.
"Our team of lineworkers represent the best in the industry, and I couldn't be more proud of the work they do each and every day to deliver safe, reliable energy for our customers," Manny Miranda, SVP of power delivery for FPL, said. Its lineworkers cover a 35-county service area in Florida, representing approximately half of the state’s entire population.
