Blockbuster entertainment potential awaits film buffs as the BLUE Ocean Film Festival and Conservation Summit presents over 90 international films in various St. Petersburg venues from Nov. 10-13, with events planned for all ages.
Filmmakers, photographers, scientists and celebrities from around the world will be welcomed by St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman, who will officiate at the opening night at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 10, with a special screening of Leonardo DiCaprio's new documentary "Before the Flood" at the Mahaffey Theater at 400 1st St. South.
The Palladium at 253 5th Ave. N is also among the venues for the fest.
This year, topics range from the harmful effects of using plastic on the world’s oceans to the recreational endeavor of kite boarding.
The event will conclude 7 p.m. Nov. 13 with a Best of the Festival presentation at North Straub Park at 400 Bay Short Drive NE.
The BLUE Ocean event began in 2009, alternating its venue between St. Petersburg and the nation of Monaco and featuring ocean-related films, photography and educational programs to raise worldwide public awareness of ocean stewardship.
