Cross-Bay Ferry commuters in the St. Petersburg-Tampa area can slash their ticket prices by 50 percent with a new Commuter Value Pass program scheduled to begin on Nov. 28.

Customers can acquire the package at www.CrossBayFerry.com by buying either a 20-ticket package for $100 or individual tickets at $5 apiece — half the regular one-way fare of $10 — and then booking specific sailing times.

Ferry officials said the program is currently a pilot project and also features many extra benefits during this season; 7-day a week service is slated starting Thanksgiving week.

Beginning Nov. 28, regular weekday ferry service is scheduled for departures from St. Petersburg at 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.; and from Tampa at 9:30 a.m. and 5:15 p.m.  Additionally, the staff has announced that beverage sales including wine and beer are now available based on popular request.

Customers can also enjoy peace of mind with the Commuter Value Pass’ special built-in back-up plan. Courtesy of Tampa Bay Area Regional Transportation Authority (TBARTA) and the Florida Department of Transportation’s District 7, an emergency ride component is included as a type of insurance if a ferry departure time is missed.

Specifically, the program will provide up to $100 in taxi fare for those travelers who depend on transit, carpool, bicycle or other means in addition to the ferry and may be at the mercy of traffic during their commuting routine. This added “peace of mind” feature is available through online registration.
