Ten volunteers, 25 gallons of PPG brand paint plus three classrooms and assistance and support from both PPG and Lowe’s Commercial Painting equaled one successful beautification project recently for Academy Prep Center of St. Petersburg.
Through its locally oriented “Colorful Communities” initiative, PPG dispatched approximately 10 painters to brighten up three classrooms with new coats of color chosen by the students. The paint colors, titled Minerva, Flemish Blue, Always Blue, Copper River, Artesian Well and Rojo Colonial, refreshed the classroom environments with premium PPG products based on formulas engineered for endurance.
To celebrate the new look, students also created a colorful banner for display in the school. Additionally, the PPG Foundation donated $10,000 to the private nonprofit school, enabling it to acquire a STEM curriculum with training for teachers — plus an after-school robotics class as an added bonus.
“The colorful PPG paint products beautifully refreshed the important spaces where our students learn and spend much of their time,” Gina Burkett, head of Academy Prep Center of St. Petersburg, said while expressing gratitude for the PPG Foundation’s generosity. “And, like PPG, we believe in empowering today’s students with education to inspire tomorrow’s scientists, mathematicians and innovators.”
PPG’s regional sales manager, Robb Butler, conveyed pride in the company’s local outreach efforts.
“At PPG, we protect and beautify the world while investing in our local communities, especially in support of local educational opportunities,” Butler said. “We are proud to be a community partner in the Greater Tampa, Clearwater and St. Petersburg area and hope this project helps Academy Prep continue its mission of providing students with enriching educational opportunities.”
PPG operates eight PPG Paints stores in the St. Petersburg and Tampa area; Lowe’s Commercial Painting operates nationwide with a Largo, Florida, location serving the Tampa Bay area for over 15 years.
