Blessings in a Backpack unveils business partnership to help fund kids' meals

Blessings in a Backpack, a nonprofit group that supplies weekend meals to needy students in Lee and Collier counties, is seeking company donations to help fund the program through its Business Partner Initiative.

Federal funding helps feed 60,000 needy children in Lee and Collier county elementary schools five days a week – but what about over the weekend?

Thanks to Blessings in a Backpack, a Southwest Florida program that sends nutritious breakfast, lunch and snacks home with some 3,000 children on Friday afternoons, the students can arrive back Monday morning fed and ready to concentrate on learning.

The nonprofit organization is seeking support from the business community to maintain the program through the end of the school year. Through its new Business Partner Initiative, companies can donate as little at $1,000 – or as much as $50,000 – to help feed as many as 500 children during the rest of the school year.

All donations are tax deductible, and benefactors will be honored with a mention on Blessings in a Backpack’s website. Other incentives include tickets to baseball games, logo appearance on promotional materials, choice of school where funding is directed and mention of the donor at special events.

Details of the sponsorship packets are available at, or by calling Executive Director Cecelia St. Arnold at 239-410-9592.
