Citigroup just deepened its presence in Tampa thanks to the purchase of 3800 Citibank Center, where it houses 5,600 of its workers.
Finalized Dec. 13, the transaction between Citi and an affiliate of Zurich Alternative Asset Management continues involvement in the community that began in 1983.
“We continually look for ways to make our workspaces more engaging and effective for our employees,” Citi Head of Operations and Technology Don Callahan said. “Owning the service center will give us more opportunities to do so.”
With 10,000 workers across 100 branch locations, Florida houses more Citi employees than any other state except New York, according to a news release.
“Citi has been a tremendous partner and employer for the local community for over three decades, and today’s announcement reaffirms their commitment to the Tampa area,” Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn said.
Citigroup is a global provider of banking and financial services, with 200 million accounts and activity in 160 countries worldwide. This year, Tampa employees of Citi donated 25,000 volunteer hours of community service via involvement in Global Community Day, educational partnerships and mentoring programs.
