Dr. Stephen Prendiville, a Fort Myers facial plastic surgeon, will present a free seminar on facial rejuvenation Jan. 27 in Bonita Springs, the Greater Fort Meyers Chamber of Commerce said on its website.
Prendiville will explain laser resurfacing and how it can rejuvenate the face. A laser beam removes the outermost layer of skin and heats the next layer, the dermis. This stimulates collagen fiber growth.
“Individuals with fine lines or wrinkles around the eyes or mouth or on the forehead are good candidates for laser resurfacing as are individuals with shallow scars from acne,” Prendiville said in the posting.
Prendiville will explain the two primary lasers used in resurfacing, the carbon dioxide (CO2) and erbium. CO2 lasers are used to remove thin layers of skin, while erbium lasers are used to remove moderately deep lines and wrinkles.
“One of the benefits of erbium laser resurfacing is minimal burning of surrounding tissue," Prendiville said. "This laser causes fewer side effects – such as swelling, bruising and redness – so recovery time is generally faster than with the CO2 laser.”
Dr. Prendiville will also discuss other plastic surgery techniques and the latest advances in reconstructive surgery, including SculpSure, the fat-melting laser device. It is the only non-invasive fat removal device approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
The seminar, which includes a light lunch, will begin at 11:30 a.m. Jan. 27 at the Trianon Bonita Bay Hotel, 3401 Bay Commons Drive. Reservations are required; call 239-437-3900.
