Students to help celebrate Thomas Edison's birthday

Students at Edison Park Creative and Expressive Arts School will be celebrating Thomas Edison's 170th birthday during a two-day public celebration Feb. 10 and 11 at the Edison & Ford Winter Estates, a release on the Greater Fort Myers Chamber Of Commerce website said.

The birthday party is a free public event with limited seating. Students will dance and play stringed instruments at 10 a.m. Feb. 10, before singing happy birthday. Cake will then be served at the event, the release said. On Feb. 11, Edison’s actual birthday, there will be more cake and singing.

The party is sponsored by the Edison Pageant of Light, an organization that began to hold annual events to memorialize Thomas Edison in 1938. The annual events include the King and Queen’s Ball, Edison’s Birthday Party and the Edison Festival of Light Parade Party, the release said.

The Edison Park School students’ performance has a history that goes back to the time when students entertained Thomas and Mina Edison on his birthday.
