Nicholas, a resident dolphin at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium, once again picked a winning sports team when he chose the New England Patriots to win the Super Bowl.
The dapper dolphin picked the winning team on Feb. 4, the day before Super Bowl LI, in front of a packed crowd, a release on the St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce website said.
The Clearwater Marine Aquarium streamed the selection live on its Facebook page. After placing two footballs representing the AFC and NFC championship teams in the water, Nicholas was left to choose the winning team by retrieving one of the balls. Without hesitation, Nicholas swam to the ball with the New England Patriots logo and returned it, thus predicting the win.
Nicholas recently made Clemson fans happy when he correctly predicted their win in the championship game between Alabama and Clemson. “He was the only dolphin in the world that thought it was going to be Clemson,” the announcer in the Facebook video said.
The Clearwater Marine Aquarium is known throughout the world for its rescue, rehabilitation and release program. The aquarium’s rescue of Winter the dolphin, who was entangled in some crab traps and later had a prosthetic tail made, was the inspiration for the movie "Dolphin Tale." In the movie's sequel. Nicholas starred along with Winter.
