The Healthy St. Pete Fitness Challenge to encourage participation in a 12-week wellness initiative designed to increase activity and promote healthy eating is underway.
As part of the initiative, a free workout session was held Feb. 11 at the Azalea Outdoor Fitness Zone with the Healthy St. Pete Fitness Challenge Champions, a posting on the St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce website said.
Those attending the event were able to use the Azalea Outdoor Fitness Zone's equipment while working out with the champions, including Deputy Mayor Kanika Tomalin, Jing Lou and Leslie Furlong, the posting said. Fitness challenge commitment cards intended to help motivate participants and keep them on track were also handed out at the event.
The St. Petersburg free virtual fitness challenge organizers seek more members to join through March 31. For more information on the program, go to www.healthystpetefl.com, the posting said.
On April 1, a Healthy St. Pete Fit City Celebration featuring a 5K, 1 mile walk, demonstrations and refreshments will be held in North Straub Park, the posting said.
