March is Women's History Month, and to celebrate the occasion, Hodges University honored women of Southwest Florida who are making a difference in the community at a gathering March 2 in Naples.

The event, “Celebrating Women of Character, Courage, Clarity, and Commitment,” was held on Hodges’ Naples campus in the White Community Room, 2647 Professional Way, a release on the Greater Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce website said.

“This event is to celebrate the women of Southwest Florida and to recognize the unsung heroes who are making a difference,” Gail Williams, chief diversity officer at Hodges University, said in the release. “Also, men are strongly encouraged to attend this event and help us celebrate these amazing women.”

Among the 2017 honorees were Barbara Key-Ramos, Brenda Tate, Stacey Lee Williams, Yemisi Oloruntola-Coates, Aysegul Timur and Eliana Tardio, the release said.

Dr. Sheila Robinson, founder and publisher of Diversity Woman Media, was the keynote speaker, and the honorary guest was Thelma Hodges, whom the university is named after.
