Boca Grove Golf and Tennis Club in Boca Raton recently installed two pickleball courts.
The new courts complement existing tennis facilities, with designated areas for the game, which combines aspects of tennis, badminton and ping-pong.
Pickleball players use paddles to hit a perforated plastic ball over a net on a court that is slightly smaller than a tennis court. After the club hosted a demonstration in 2016, pickleball surged in popularity at the boutique club, creating a need for the extra courts, according to a press release.
"The new pickleball courts are attracting members we don't normally see at the Tennis Center, as they are taking an interest in the new sport available at Boca Grove,” Richard Centerbar, the club’s tennis director, said in the release. “We have also found that the game of pickleball is infusing a new spirit of camaraderie across all groups with senior and younger members joining forces and playing together."
Boca Grove Golf and Tennis Club has approximately 444 member families, the release stated.
