Nearly 90 percent of sheriffs are backing Republican Ashley Moody for the Attorney General seat in Florida, as current Attorney General Pam Bondi has reached the limit for re-election.

Both Democratic and Republican sheriffs would rather see Moody as attorney general over Democrat Sean Shaw, whom some describe as unqualified.

“He’s (Shaw) falsely attacked Moody and he backed softer sentencing for a cop killer,” Sheriff Darryl Daniels of Clay County said in a new Moody ad campaign. “He shouldn’t be top cop.”

Republican Sheriff Chris Nocco of Pasco County, Democrat Sheriff Dewey Hatcher of Dixie County, and Republican Sheriff Dennis Lemma of Seminole County are featured in the video ad endorsing Moody.

They  say that Florida’s attorney general is supposed to fight crime and enforce the law. They state that Moody has done both while Shaw has done neither, according to the ad.

“It’s not politics, it’s common sense,” Lemma said.

According to a Naples Daily News report, Moody has an extensive legal career as she was a federal prosecutor in the Middle District of Florida and a circuit judge in the Tampa Bay area.

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 6.
