Great Hearts Academies, Arizona's largest nonprofit network of public charter schools, has received a $50,000 grant from the APS (Arizona Public Service) Foundation to support a math program in collaboration with Reasoning Mind.
Reasoning Mind is a nationwide nonprofit organization that teaches Russian mathematics. The Great Hearts and Reasoning Mind partnership features a master mathematics teacher as the center of instruction, supported by technology allowing each student to work through problems at an individually challenging level.
"The APS Foundation is a leader in investing in Arizona's education system and preparing students to compete in the global economy," Ward Huseth, Great Hearts interim CEO and chief financial officer, said. "Their grant demonstrates a shared commitment with Great Hearts to providing high-quality mathematics instruction as part of a robust liberal arts education. We are deeply grateful for its investment and excited about the potential for this program."
A Great Hearts education transforms students into leaders by teaching the skills of success, such as creative innovation, clear communication, critical thought and character-building. The SAT average score for Great Hearts students the past five years is 1210, or 200 points above the national average.
